Project description: The campus-based smoking cessation program, Cold Turkey, offered university students and staff/faculty quit help including free cessation classes, nicotine patches, and physician consultations. CASE/PASS students, trained and certified as Tobacco Cessation Instructors, helped participants assess reasons for smoking, gave them tools to aid their attempt to quit, and developing a plan to quit. Degree to which objectives were met: During the fall 2007 semester, a 37.5% quit rate after two months was recorded among participants; and during the spring semester 2008 a 23.5% quit rate was achieved after two months. Implications for Health Education/ESG: Cessation programs that offer a wide base of support that include counseling, tobacco replacement medication, and health education greatly enhance the participants' ability to quit.
