Analysis of Investment Strategies: Investment Club vs. the Dart Board
Mike M. Tolliver
Dr. Jason Lin, Faculty Mentor

Many strategies have been developed in the attempt to maximize profit while minimizing the risk inherent in the stock market, but when compared to random investment selections, these strategies don’t appear to do much better. This project attempts to compare the specific investment strategy utilized by investment clubs, as recommended by the NAIC, to that of a random portfolio. The test portfolio is comprised of stocks meeting the selection criteria given by the NAIC, and the control portfolio selected stocks at random using a dart board and a wall street journal.
