“An Analysis of Anti-Rape Legislation in France and Italy and its Correlation with Women’s Roles in Society” explores the history of rape legislation and the history of women’s roles in France and in Italy. This research examines the relationship between rape legislation and women’s roles through an analysis of famous rape trials and hallmark rape laws, such as the Aix-en-Provence trial of 1978 in France and the Jeans Case of 1998 in Italy. In addition, this study synthesizes statistical information about sexual violence in these two nations and provides possible explanations for the statistical data. Finally, conclusions are drawn to offer an overall view of the status of rape legislation, of women in these nations, and of how the two correlate.
