The Impact of the Six Traits of Writing on Student Revision

This action research examined the impact of the Six Traits of Writing on the revision of a class of fourth-grade students. For this three-month study, the Six Traits of Writing were viewed as a framework of assessment for learning. The students completed questionnaires, participated in a traditional process-based writer's workshop that utilized Six Traits rubrics for mini-lessons, and conferenced with the teacher-researchers throughout the course of the study. Three of the traits were taught with a corresponding writing assignment for each.
