This piece displays the immense pain that occurs in the creation of new life. The open abdominal cavity lends itself to the bursting of a woman's body during child labor. The vaginal like opening on the posterior of the sculpture is seen as the back pain from carrying the child which is splitting her body in half. The back open is connected to the ruptured stomach, creating a negative space, or emotional void, similar to the experience of postpartum depression that many woman experience after giving birth.
