How God Saved Music
Brent A. Cook
Dr. Dana Smith, Faculty Mentor

My presentation finds its roots in a final paper assignment for my History and Literature I class from fall 04. The assignment was to write a twenty-page play in the style of an ancient Greek or Roman playwright. I chose Aeschylus and wrote the play “How God Saved Music.” What made my play unique was the fact that it was a musical, complete with an accompanying CD. I tried to use semi-one-dimensional characters in the style of Aeschylus and I also wrote a play featuring a hands-on God. The play is the story of a band, C Squared and their quest to take over the musical world and win over a few hearts while they were at it. For my presentation, a scene will be performed including at least one song. I will then answer questions on my play’s connections to Aeschylus and also any other odds-n-ends questions.
