Exploring Cremation in the United States: A Scientific Approach to Anthropology

This study utilizes a scientific approach to investigate varying rates of cremation among the 50 United States of America. Through this approach the relevance of modern socio-cultural systems to the study of archaeology is highlighted. Specifically, previous research is scrutinized, methodological challenges are confronted, and a tentative explanation for the variation in cremation rates is spelled out. Finally, this investigation concludes that the movement of people between states is the most causal factor contributing to the observed variability in cremation rates among the 50 United States.
