University and Community Awareness of the Truman State University Speech and Hearing Clinic

The goal of this study was to examine university and community awareness of the Truman State University Speech and Hearing clinic. Data were collected through questionnaires administered to a sample of the student body and faculty, as well as community organizations that encounter clients who may need speech-language services. Questionnaires assessed individual’s awareness of the existence and purpose of the facility. Completed questionnaires were collected from 349 Truman students, 67 faculty members (15% return rate), and 18 community members (45% return rate). Preliminary data indicated low student awareness, but a relatively high level of awareness by faculty and community members. Approximately 26% of students, 94% of faculty, and 94% of community members surveyed indicated they were aware of the Truman State University Speech and Hearing Clinic. Data regarding the extent of public awareness, specifically of the purpose of and services provided by the facility will be included in the presentation.
