The Effects of Shearing, Sex, and Time of Feeding on Growth and Feed Efficiency in Sheep

Thirty-two growing lambs were evenly divided into sub-groups based on the following factors: male or female, sheared or not sheered, and am or pm feeding time. Lambs were then weighed weekly to determine if any of these factors had an effect on their growth. Mean growth (lbs.) for sheared, not sheared, male, female, am, and pm was 46.187, 48.113, 40.375, 43.925, 51, 43.3 respectively. Gender and time of feeding had a significant effect on growth (p<.05). Shearing, however, did not have a significant effect on growth (p>.05). It would be valuable to conduct further research to determine why the time of feeding had an effect on weight gain.
