Factors Affecting the Retention Rate of African American Students at COPLAC Universities

Black students on white campuses have been shown to experience considerable difficulty adjusting to a college or university, which they often find alienating. Prior research suggests that factors such as financial aid, interactions with faculty, academic preparation, and academic and social integration, were reasons that African American students left predominantly white institutions. This study examines the factors which cause African American students to continue their education at the schools which make up the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges (COPLAC).
