"Sergeant Pepper": The Coming of Age of the Beatles

My paper and presentation will focus on The Beatles and the Sergeant Pepper and The Lonely Hearts Club Band album. The paper and presentation will examine two main areas. The Beatles as a band and the influences that affected their musical creativity and their maturation will be explored. This will be explained by briefly examining the culture of the time, as well as the popular music that influenced the members of the band. The maturation of The Beatles’ music throughout their career will be shown by a general view of their early albums and the albums that lead up to the creation of the Sargent Pepper album. The second part of the presentation and paper will include an analysis of the Sergeant Pepper album focusing on the aspects of melody, harmony, and lyrics and how these aspects are combined to create the mature sound of The Beatles in their later career efforts. The fact that this album was created as a “concept album” will be explored as well.
