Comparative Analysis on the Performance in the IT and Banking Industries

The comparisons of the two industries were conducted on a fundamental level, focusing on historical stock prices along with growth and performance ratios such as: Earnings per Share; Price Earnings Ratio; Price to Book Ratio; and Return on Equity. In order to develop such an analysis, three of the leading companies were selected from each of the two sectors. Samples used for the Technology Sector included Yahoo, Microsoft, and Apple; and samples used for the Banking Sector included Citigroup, Wachovia, and Wells Fargo. Take note that the companies selected from their respective industries were not used in comparison amongst themselves, but rather averaged together to be analyzed comparatively against the opposing industry. The compilation of the quantitative figures was extracted from their respective Annual Reports and other various SEC filings.
