The Will to Power and Henry James: A Nietzschean reading and character study of The Awkward Age

Friedrich Nietzsche's idea of the Will to Power is one of the most lucrative and interesting proposals in Western philosophical thought. Stephan Donadio's book, entitled Nietzsche, Henry James, and the Artistic Will, explores the similarities in ideas between Nietzsche and James. Donadio, however, provides a broad overview of both Nietzsche and James without a very close study of one piece from each. This paper attempts to define Nietzsche's Will to Power by providing a background to the idea then, after developing an understanding of the Will to Power, it applies the definition to The Awkward Age in an attempt to identify the actions of the characters as Nietzschean in motivation.
