Spanish Adjective Placement: An Examination of Change in Progress

The Spanish language exhibits a great deal of flexibility due to its strong morphology (ie. verb conjugations, adjective agreement). There are also rules in place which govern possible word orders, for example with the placement of adjectives either before or after the nouns they modify. Grammarians and linguists have studied the rules and how native speakers actually speak for many years. These studies have resulted in many books and articles which identify both prescriptive rules and descriptive evaluations. This presentation will show that many of these "rules" and descriptions regarding adjective placement are not as strictly followed by many native Spanish speakers, and that previous theories may not apply any more.
