Critical phenomena are explored by investigating the critical properties of a three dimensional spin system. Two well studied thermodynamic models, the Ising and XY systems, are coupled at the spin level to create a new hybrid system called the Ising-XY. Monte Carlo simulations of this system are performed using a model written in the C++ programming language. The Markov process is used with periodic boundary conditions to create the model, and the Metropolis algorithm is used to update the system. Data from the model is used to estimate the critical point and critical exponents of the Ising-XY system. Preliminary results suggest that the hybrid system identifies most closely with the Ising universality class.
