Application of Baroque Ornamentation Practices to Modern Tuba Performance
Joshua E. Waymire♦

The current repertoire of high school and college tubists is made up not only of works written for the modern instrument, but also of works originally written for other instruments and transcribed for tuba. Among popular instruments from which to draw music were the cello and the bass. These instruments had many compositions written for them during the baroque era. In the baroque era, performance of compositions strictly as they are written is not the common practice. This research looks into what the performance practices of the baroque era were, and how they can be applied to current tuba transcriptions, specifically two of Benedetto Marcellos Cello sonatas.
