Comparability of Myotest to V-Scope for Determining Velocity in Heavy and Light Squats

The purpose of this study was to compare the Myotest and V-Scope in velocity for heavy and light squats. Sixteen college students (M=8, F=8) performed 1 set of 5 squat jumps with a 20 kilogram load. Another set with a load half their body weight was performed. During testing, the Myotest and V-scope sensor was attached to the bar. A paired t-test and Pearson correlation was used to compare the velocity readings from both testing methods for both sets. For the light load, the velocity values were significantly different (p = .028) and the correlation was significant (r = .567). For the heavy load, there was a significant difference (p = .010). The correlation of velocity was also significant (r = .686). Neither testing method has been validated with much research in the past; therefore, each method should be tested against a valid standard for measuring velocity.
