Stationary Circular Hydraulic Jumps and their Downstream Conditions
Martín A. Di Stefano
Dr. Eduardo Velasco, Faculty Mentor

A hydraulic jump is seen by many but noticed by few - in a simple case, it occurs when a vertical water stream, such as one from a kitchen faucet, strikes a horizontal plate and a ring forms around the point of impact. This ring is a hydraulic jump and is where the shallow, faster flowing water becomes deeper and flows more slowly. In this presentation we will present the results of our investigation of the radius of the circular hydraulic jump and how the rate of flow and downstream conditions, such as plate diameters, affect the jump radius.
