Serving Our Students: The Prevalence of Information Technology Service Outsourcing at America's Colleges and Universities

The overall goal of this project was to benchmark the outsourcing of information technology services among America's colleges and universities. This project sought to uncover the extent to which the practice occurs and the reasons for it. The project also looked at the varying levels of satisfaction among the schools surveyed with their information technology services, whether they outsource or not. The procedures used to accomplish this project were a literature review on information technology outsourcing and developing questions for interviews with information technology personnel at America's colleges and universities. Another major part of the project included formulating a survey to distribute to the schools to determine the extent that outsourcing is occurring and the reasons for it. The results provide great insight into the current state of information technology services in higher education in the United States.
