A Look inside the Bottle: Facial Cosmetics in the Twentieth Century

Within the bottle near the mirror the contents are spread, smeared, rubbed, massaged, wiped, and splashed onto your face to create your look for the twentieth century. Throughout the twentieth century cosmetics, adorn people of all nations. Society integrates cosmetic innovations into the fashionable look of the time, making them a necessary fixture in everyday lives. In 1997, Americans spent approximately $22 billion a year for cosmetics that were not heavily regulated by the federal government. Therefore, a consumer must ask themselves what harm can come from makeup? In reality, we should be asking how long has this danger been there and why is it still there? How much do we really know about the skin and the products used on the skin?
