Investigation into the Efficacy of the Implementation of Digital Portfolios in the Classroom

The digital portfolio is an educational tool that can be used as an alternative assessment in the language classroom. This virtual platform conveys comprehensive information that evidences student learning over time. As digital learning becomes more commonplace, ePortfolios are excellent resources to organize student work in a collaborative and sustainable manner, moving away from traditional paper collections. ePortfolios are not currently utilized in many educational settings. I developed criteria for the implementation of ePortfolios for a writing-enhanced Spanish 330 class at Truman State University (Grammar and Composition) during the Fall 2021 semester. The students completed a pre- and post- questionnaire that included Likert scale items determining their attitudes and experiences and a space for other comments with ePortfolios. This research determined that all students in the class found digital portfolios user-friendly and agreed that they were an effective way to document their progress as they organized the collection of essays.
