Truman Students' Self Perceptions and How it Affects their Conceptualization of What is Success

The students who choose to attend Truman usually come from large amounts of high school success. Along with that, the widely accepted sentiment on Truman’s campus is that the university is a very difficult school to attend. The wider research would suggest that those things together would lead to burnout, however, is that true? Does easy success in high school prevent students from developing the skills needed to succeed in college? Along with that, are students more easily discouraged by poor grades if being academically successful is something they have come to expect for themselves? After administering a survey I found that at Truman, burnout, in the sense that someone’s grades begin to slide, is not observed. Rather, Truman students value academic achievement so much that they will readjust to ensure that they will continue to achieve academically, even if that means changing some of their former goals.
