Organic forms in Dinnerware
Kelsey A. Balk
Prof. Wynne Wilbur, Faculty Mentor

Organic shapes and forms have always been visually appealing to me for their fluidity and soft feminine curves. In the past I have played with this idea and have made a tea set, where I carved into the outsides of the forms in a way that gave them a more organic feel. I decided to take this idea further and began working on a larger scale. I am now making dinnerware that is carved, however I have decided to focus more on the beginnings and ends of the pots, since that is where the eye concentrates most. I now flare the edges and carve into the feet of the work, which puts more emphasis on how the pieces are displayed and how they function. I am working on resolving these issues, while creating an elegant, yet earthy appeal to my dinnerware.
