Environmental Influences of Civil Law: A Comparison of Adair County and the City of Saint Louis
John E. Redden
Dr. Paul Parker, Faculty Mentor
Preexisting research on civil litigation in St. Louis City Circuit Court examined the socio-economic and political factors driving the volume and range of civil litigation. St. Louis City and Adair County Circuit Courts share Missouri judicial procedure and law; yet environmental differences between the two are great. By analyzing a sample of the civil cases filed in Adair County during the 19th Century I plan to investigate whether these circuit courts hear similar litigation or if environmental contrasts create different litigation climates.
