Erin M. Haslag
Prof. Jennifer Eldridge, Faculty Mentor
The purpose of this study is to test the relationship between nutrition knowledge and body image perception in a college population. The relationship will be tested through the use of a nutritional survey component (which has been created and pilot tested, and run for reliability with a Cronbach’s alpha) and body image assessment surveys. The body image assessment tools consist of: body composition/body satisfaction study, Social Physique Anxiety Scale and the EAT 26 (all of which have been tested for validity and reliability). The sampling method will consist of the surveys given to three sections of HLTH 195 lecture. The sample consists of students, ranging from freshman to seniors, between the ages of 17-26. The generalizability to the other campuses or the public is one of the limitations of the study, with the scope focused on students at a selective public liberal arts college.
