Dr. Ilene Elminger, Faculty Mentor
The purpose of the project is to investigate the effect of noise on the hearing thresholds of music student at Truman State University. Musicians are exposed to potentially harmful noise levels which can put them at risk for noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL). This project surveyed 10 music performance majors about their backgrounds, frequency of exposure to loud noise, and preventative measures used. Their hearing thresholds were then assessed prior to and immediately following a rehearsal. Results will be presented and implications will be discussed.
