Escherichia coli Levels over a Three Year Period in Forest Lake
Nicole F. Morris
Dr. Cynthia Cooper, Faculty Mentor

A long-term study of E. coli levels can indicate a rise or decline in E. coli and indicate conditions that may be advantageous or harmful to E. coli. The purpose of this study was to compile data using Microsoft Excel and Word to show three-year trends in E. coli levels. The data indicate that E. coli levels in Forest Lake over the three years (2006 - 08) have remained relatively stable. In 2008, however, E. coli levels increased above public health water quality standards and correlated with several significant rain events. Therefore, if E. coli levels do rise and fall over time, continuing this long term study will provide essential baseline data against which long-term trends can be compared.
