Gatorade vs. Water in Mountain Bike Performance

This study examines the difference in performance time between mountain bikers who are hydrated with either Gatorade or water. The study included six active mountain bikers including four men, and two women who participated in a particular biking trail at Thousand Hills State Park. These participants were separated into three different groups according to their trail familiarity and mountain biking experience. These groups contained an Expert, Experienced, and Novice rider who had ridden on this trail at least fifteen, five and zero times, respectively. They were then split into two different teams, according to their means of hydration, each team consisting of one rider from each of the three groups. The overall results of the two teams showed that the riders hydrated with Gatorade finished fifteen minutes, seven seconds before Team Water. All participants in Team Gatorade also finished earlier than all participants in Team Water when timed individually.
