Crisis Management Strategies in the Pet Food Crisis of 2007
Eric D. Ferguson
Dr. Debra Cartwright, Faculty Mentor
This presentation will provide a brief background of the 2007 Pet Food Crisis in order to more deeply explore the important elements of crisis response using five pet food companies as case examples. The selected factors of crisis management strategies that were tested during this study include the importance of branding, company websites, the importance of voluntary recalls in the event of a crisis, and the importance of press releases during a crisis period. Each of these factors was measured in reference to the crisis response actions of pet food companies Del Monte, Proctor & Gamble, Nestle, Colgate-Palmolive, and Mars. The conclusions of the study being presented at the Student Research Conference will include the compilation of academic discourse on the topic of effective crisis management strategies and the results of a survey administered to Truman State students and faculty.
