Identification of Pathogenic Fusarium Species in Soybeans
Fusarium is a genus of fungi that causes disease in soybeans and reduces crop yields. Therefore, monitoring Fusarium species diversity and their pathogenicity helps farmers develop effective control strategies against pathogenic Fusarium species. The objective of this study is to identify Fusarium species in Missouri and evaluate their pathogenicity in soybeans. Fusarium species isolated from soybean farms were first identified using DNA sequencing. These species were used to inoculate soybean seedlings under control conditions. Next, the fungi were reisolated from soybean seedlings showing disease symptoms. Finally, reisolated fungi were identified using DNA sequencing to confirm the pathogenicity of the Fusarium species. Currently, four Fusarium species have been verified to be pathogenic.
