Finding Ways to Improve the Online Landscape for Minors
This paper documents findings from a survey where 31 Truman State University students responded to questions about their opinions on certain online activities and the restriction of internet usage for minors. Some of the variables featured were the respondents' ages and political leanings compared to their reported opinions to try to derive meaning and hopefully find significant results. The one significant result that was found was that those who are on the political left are more in favor of minors making online profiles at younger ages than those who reported being right of the spectrum. There is also discussion of the social implications of conducting a study such as this, like the common political leanings of different online communities and how openly present and/or abundant minors are in them. This topic could also benefit from other forms of assessment, such as unstructured interviews, in the future.
