Sound Design For The 39 Steps: Abridged

At the American College Theatre Festival (ACTF) Region 5, students are able to participate in different events, to showcase their work. One of these events is the Design Expo. The expo is a multiple day event that gives designers and technicians in the areas of sound, light, costume, stage management, etc the chance to present a poster of their work that the rest of the festival participants can come in and view throughout the week. There is also a 10 minute individual response session where respondents provide feedback to the student about their work and display. At the 58th Regional Festival I presented my sound design for The 39 Steps: Abridged directed by Dr. Cat Gleason. My concept for this show was breaking the fourth wall through sound by implementing sound effects that were manipulated by the script and vice versa inspired by 1930s radio plays.
