The purpose of this research is to determine if flexible seating opportunities have a positive impact on students’ overall opinion and mood towards testing. Fifth grade students from a rural town in Mid-Missouri were the participants in this study. A short questionnaire was administered after each testing session, and observational data were collected about the behaviors displayed by students during the testing procedures. There was no data collected on the academic outcomes of the tests. Before the flexible seating was implemented, the feelings of students varied from feeling indifferent, happy, mad, sleepy, and sad. Once flexible seating was introduced, there was a trend in the data showing an increase towards more positive emotions like feeling happy. After the flexible seating was implemented, the students' opinion towards their comfortableness during testing changed for the better. The research showed that flexible seating may provide students with the environment they need in order to be emotionally and physically comfortable during testing procedures.
