Investigation of Reading Attitutes in the Classroom
A child’s excitement for learning, especially reading motivation and engagement, may greatly impact that child and how they view themselves on a personal and educational level. There is an ever - present decline in the attitudes of children as they make their progression in school, specifically when it comes to reading. When explicitly looking at the United States educational system, it is evident that this issue has many influencing factors that encompass some overarching concepts such as autonomy, reading motivation, reading engagement, reading comprehension, literacy rates, educational strategies, intrinsic motivation, and identity. This research will draw primarily on the disciplines of education, psychology, and philosophy. This presentation will explore the multifaceted components of a child’s education and development in order to detect how these factors influence one another and how childrens’ attitudes toward reading change as a whole when children advance in school as well as in age.
