Analysis of Risk Factor Perceptions for Chronic Health Conditions

Robert W. Hartsell
Dr. Nancy Daley-Moore, Faculty Mentor

This study seeks to analyze the perceptions and knowledge of Truman State students, faculty and staff regarding cardiovascular disease and diabetes. The researchers emailed students, faculty, and staff a pre-test survey containing Likert scale questions assessing perceptions and knowledge. Upon completion of the pre-test survey (n = 47), participants were invited to take part in one of the project’s interventions and finally the post-test survey. Interventions included (a) stopping by researchers tabling events around campus where educational bookmarks were handed out (b) attending a presentation on how to engage in proper nutrition and (c) listening to a podcast on how to engage in proper exercise. Following participation in one of the intervention programs, participants were issued a post-test survey. This presentation will compare the pre-test and post-test results and share implications for future chronic disease programming at Truman.
