Friendship Formantion and Maintence in Greek Life.

College allows for growth in independence and mind; where friendships are formed and lifelong bonds are made. Contributing to the existing literature on friendship formation, this qualitative study offers insights into the unique context of Greek life and college by diving into the intricate dynamics of friendship formation and maintenance through the lens of gender to investigate how cross-gender friendships present themselves among college-aged individuals. This study aims to provide a nuanced understanding of how friendships are cultivated and sustained, particularly within the framework of gender roles and expectations. Utilizing in-depth interviews, this research sheds light on the processes underlying the formation and maintenance of friendships. Findings reveal that the role of gender emerges as a pivotal factor in shaping friendship patterns, with participants navigating societal norms and stereotypes to negotiate their sense of identity and belonging within their respective Greek communities.
