After-Hours Work and Teacher Preparedness: Unpacking the Connection

This paper presents a preliminary investigation into the relationship between the time teachers spend working unpaid hours after their contractual obligations and their perceived preparedness for the following day. The study aims to shed light on whether the additional hours invested by teachers outside their formal work hours contribute to an enhanced sense of readiness. Ten adult subjects, all certified K-8 educators, were selected as participants in this study. A daily questionnaire spanning a one-month duration was administered to the teacher subjects. The questionnaire measured the number of hours spent working beyond their contractually mandated hours and assessed the extent to which these additional hours affected their perceived preparedness for each instructional day.
