The Gaps Between Employers and Transition Services

Maura E. Ploesser
Dr. Julie Lochbaum and Dr. Nancy Daley-Moore, Faculty Mentors

Transition services help individuals with disabilities be independent and create an effective bridge from school to post-school activities, including further education, independent living, and employment. This research addresses the gap between employers’ needs and transition services for those special education students whose individualized education plans include the goal of competitive integrated employment. The research assisted the local Transition Coalition in determining the needs of local employers and assisted the Coalition in aligning the appropriate preparation of services to fill those needs. In partnership with the Transition Coalition, the researchers surveyed employers in Adair County to identify the gaps between the needs of local employers and Transition Services.
