Dynamic Postural Control and its Relationship to Previous Lower Extremity Injuries

Dynamic postural control plays an important role in maintaining stability and coordination during complex movements such as kicking a soccer ball. This study focuses on dynamic postural control and its relationship to the history of injury of an individual. We collected data from 20 students (8 with no injuries and 12 with previous injuries) that are all in college and engaged in some sort of exercise program. Each individual was asked to perform a single leg balance test by standing on a force plate for 30 seconds on each leg to access static postural control and they were asked to perform a Y-balance test to access dynamic postural control. The overall result of this study was that there was no significant difference found between the two groups or in the left or right leg. It is possible that this could be due to the individuals rehab program.
