Environmental Transnational Partnerships
This proposed project explores the dynamics of environmental transnational partnerships from The United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development - Rio 2012. Transnational multi-stakeholder partnerships have emerged as a tool for collaborative governance; however, the effectiveness of these partnerships is debated in the research literature. Rio 2012 was the UN’s third global conference that attempted to establish environmental and economic targets. The conference included 188 governments and facilitated the formation of 961 partnerships aimed at addressing “climate action.” This proposed project examines the characteristics of actors, organizations, and states involved in UN environmental transnational partnerships and how these factors relate to patterns of success in these“climate action” initiatives.
