Simulation-Enhanced Interprofessional Education Experience: A Pilot Study
Although technology-enhanced educational modalities have shown some promise in medical and nursing education, more exploration on its effect in the interprofessional education setting on communication has been called for. Using a pre-test/post-test design, the effectiveness of an online educational module on interprofessional communication between student nurses and medical students was evaluated. For both groups, there was no statistically significant change. The online module was then followed by a medical and nursing student collaborative simulation where interprofessional communication was assessed. A majority of the participants scored at or above average on individual and group communication skills. These results will inform the next study that will use a controlled experimental design.
