Analysis and Performance of Beethoven Op. 59, No. 3, Movement IV
In this presentation, we will examine the compositional techniques used in the fourth movement of the String Quartet in C major, Op. 59, No. 3 by Ludwig van Beethoven. The work was composed during his middle period and it is from a set of quartets dedicated to the Russian Count Andreas Rasumowsky. This final movement is a fugue, and we will briefly discuss the basic elements of the fugue and demonstrate the structural and contrapuntal techniques used by the composer. The presentation will conclude with a performance of the movement.
