The Life and Compositions of Clarinetist Heinrich Baermann

Rarely do musical performers have an opportunity to perform a piece that was written specifically for them. Heinrich Baermann was a clarinetist who inspired three great composers, which included Carl Maria von Weber, Giacomo Meyerbeer, and Felix Mendelssohn, to compose several pieces in honor of his great musicianship and talent. Baermann was not only the inspiration for these composers, but his performances of these works were able to lift these composers to fame. Baermann was also known to have assisted in these compositions which helped to enhance his own written works. Excerpts to be performed will be chosen from Weber’s “Concertino,” “Concerto No. 2,” and Mendelssohn’s “Concert Piece #1, Op. 113” as well as Baermann’s “Introduction and Polonaise, Op. 25” and the “Quintet in Eb, Op. 23.”
