Bloch String Quartet No3

Ernest Bloch was born in Geneva (Switzerland) in 1880. He was a composer and violinist. He was a student of the well-known violinist Eugene Ysaye. Among his compositions are works for orchestra, chamber music, vocal and choral, music for piano and especially for strings. He composed five string quartet. The quartet that will be performed during the conference is number 3. It was composed in the last period of his life in 1952 when he was 72 years old. The first movement can be describe as extremely powerful. It is characterized particularly by trills and stark rhythms. This quartet offers the widest possible range of dynamics and colour. The moments of anger have the same intensity of the lyric and mysterious part. It was premiered in 1953 by the Griller quartet.
