The Effect of Surface Plasmons on Diffraction Gratings
Surface plasmons are delocalized electron oscillations that occur between two surfaces. The motion of these electrons creates an electromagnetic field. This review focuses on the effects of these surface plasmons on diffraction gratings. Namely, at certain angles, the power of reflected light incident on the diffraction grating changes drastically. We will discuss research that show these effects, as well as whether or not these effects are indeed due to surface plasmons. Finally, we propose an experimental method to investigate these effects.
