An Independent "Body" of Work
Galen M. Gibson-Cornell
Prof. Jim Jereb, Faculty Mentor
This project originally stemmed from my great interest in the human body and its portrayal in artwork. I began drawing the human figure to improve my skills as an artist and deal with the many challenges inherent in representing the human figure as a subject, such as believably rendering the body in a confined space, and accounting for its placement on the page. However, through my independent exploration of figure drawing and lithography over the past three semesters, I have both fine-tuned my objective drawing skills and come to a better understanding of the role of the human figure in visual arts. I have learned how the human body can serve as both a beautiful object and a vehicle to convey emotion and meaning. This presentation will contain 10-15 prints which I think best display my progress and skill in figure drawing.
