Sitting Among Giants: The Temple of Hephaestus and Its Place in History

When people think of Greek temples they think first of the Parthenon, but another amazing example of Doric architecture exists within the city of Athens. Built during the time of Perikles, the Temple of Hephaestus is the most-intact temple left standing in all of Greece. This paper will discuss the physical layout and status of the temple as well as the perfect storm of factors that led to it surviving without much damage, in a country where barely any ancient constructions have survived in their original form.
