Identification of Pathogenic Fusarium Species in Soybean
The crop yield and quality of soybean plants in Missouri are negatively impacted by pathogenic fungi in the Fusarium genus. To help improve crop protection and fungi management, this study will provide insights into pathogenicity and diversity of Fusarium species that infect Missouri soybeans. The objective of this study is to identify Fusarium species in Missouri soybean fields and evaluate their pathogenicity. Seven Fusarium species have been identified using Fusarium-specific selective media and DNA sequencing. To test pathogenicity, isolated Fusarium species were used to inoculate soybean seedlings. When disease symptoms were observed, the pathogenic Fusarium causing the symptoms was reisolated. So far, our results showed that four of the seven isolated Fusarium species were pathogenic.
