Costume Design of the Phantoms from the Rocky Horror Show

Claire C. Choinka
AP Pikiben, Faculty Mentor

The costume design for the phantoms in the Rocky Horror Show consists of five completed concepts, renderings, physical costumes, hair, and makeup that were worn by actors during Truman State’s production of the Rocky Horror Show. The process of creating these designs is represented through the inspiration and research photos, paperwork, and drawings shown on the poster. The designs themselves are inspired by vintage lingerie and fashion seen in gay leather bars of the 1980’s while maintaining the otherworldly essence felt in the show.

These designs were presented at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (FCACTF) Region 5 design expo to theatre faculty from other schools in the region. These faculty members also provided critique to the designs and the presentation itself.
