Student Showcase Costume Design for One Act: An Act of Compassion

At the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) Region 5 Festival, there are many student showcase events, including the Design Expo. The Expo is a multiple day event wherein any festival goer can see your design–including lighting, sound, set, costume and/or makeup design–and respondents give feedback on both your display and the work you are showcasing. At the 57th Regional Festival in Des Moines this January, I presented my costume design for the One Act An Act of Compassion directed by graduate student Jillian. I was a presenter in the company of hundreds of other students from schools all over Missouri, Kansas, South Dakota, Iowa, and other Midwestern states. For Designing An Act of Compassion I pulled and used costumes from our departmental costume storage based off of Humke’s vision for the project. I fitted each actor and found pieces that accomplished the visual goals I created.
